Embedded BallSITUATION: A player hits a high shot on a wet day, the ball plugs in the fairway. What may the player do? SOLUTION: Other than in a hazard the player may pick up the ball out of its own pitch mark, clean it, and drop it (aim for the pitch mark). Most local rules include that "through the green" not just closely mown areas allows relief without penalty for an embedded ball. DO NOT repair the pitch mark, and if the ball lands back in the same pitch mark, re-drop the ball. If it lands in the same pitch mark again, re-drop a second time. If it lands in the same pitch mark the second time, place the ball as near as possible to the pitch mark. When dropped, if ball lands in someone elses pitch mark, the player must play and in not entitled to relief. If the player dropps and it makes an new pitch mark, the play may re-drop without penalty.
