 | Softspikes®, LLC, founded in 1993, is the pioneer of and worldwide leader of sales in plastic golf cleats. Softspikes® cleats were invented in 1992, when a winter spike ban campaign was endorsed by several western golf associations. Wanting to offer golfers an alternative to tennis shoes, they experimented with various "plug" designs for the cleat receptacles, eventually developing the fan-like spiral design that became the industry's first and only patented non-metal spike. In 1993, Softspikes®' worldwide marketing rights were acquired by Bill Ward and Myron Gerber, who later bought the company and moved its headquarters to Alexandria, VA., and eventually to its current location in Gaithersburg, MD. |
